In Sonoma County, there are five primary refuse disposal sites. This includes one large central landfill and four smaller transfer stations.
Disposal & Transfer Station Locations
All of these sites are operated by Republic Services in partnership with the county’s Integrated Waste Division.
* Central Disposal Site (Landfill): Located in Petaluma (500 Mecham Road). This is the county’s main facility and accepts the widest range of materials.
* Annapolis Transfer Station: Located in Annapolis (33549 Annapolis Road).
* Guerneville Transfer Station: Located in Guerneville (13450 Pocket Drive).
* Healdsburg Transfer Station: Located in Healdsburg (166 Alexander Valley Road).
* Sonoma Transfer Station: Located in the city of Sonoma (4376 Stage Gulch Road).
Specific Waste Facilities
In addition to general trash disposal, there is a dedicated facility for hazardous materials:
* Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility: Located at the Central Disposal Site in Petaluma. It is specifically for toxic items like paints, cleaners, and electronics.
> Tip: Hours and accepted materials can vary by site (for example, some transfer stations have more limited hours than the Central Landfill). It is always a good idea to check the Zero Waste Sonoma website for current fees and schedules before heading out.
